Thomas W. F. Russell was an American chemical engineer known for his pioneering work in process systems engineering. His research on process synthesis, design, and optimization significantly advanced the field, especially in the areas of heat integration and distillation systems. Russell's contributions to education in chemical engineering were also profound, mentoring numerous students who went on to become leaders in the field. In 2005, he was elected as member of European Academy of Engineering.
