Election Remark
Murray Gell-Mann emerged as one of the leading theoretical physicists of the 20th century with his introduction of the quark model for the subatomic structure.

His development of the "eightfold way" classification of subatomic particles provided a way to organize particles into families based on their properties.

Gell-Mann's keen insights into the workings of the atomic nucleus and the forces that govern the behavior of particles at the deepest level of matter have become fundamental tenets in physics, shaping our current understanding of the standard model.

He was elected as member of the European Academy of Engineering in 1992.
