Election Remark
Jacqueline Barton is a celebrated American chemist whose groundbreaking studies on the role of DNA in electrical chemistry have influenced our understanding of genetics.

By using transition metal complexes that can scan along a strand of DNA, Barton's research group demonstrated that DNA can act as a conductor in certain contexts, influencing the field of molecular electronics. She has received numerous accolades for her contributions, including the Priestley Medal, the highest honor conferred by the American Chemical Society.

She was elected as member of the European Academy of Engineering in 2008.
