Election Remark
George P. Smith's legacy in the field of biological sciences is firmly established with his invention of the phage display technique, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize.

This technique allows for the study of protein interactions and has been instrumental in the development of new pharmaceuticals, including monoclonal antibodies used in the treatment of diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and cancer.

He was elected as member of the European Academy of Engineering in 2001.
