Election Remark
Freeman Dyson's breadth of interest and depth of expertise made him a polymath of the physical sciences.

His contributions spanned a wide range of subjects from quantum field theory, where he demonstrated the equivalence of the formulations of quantum electrodynamics, to mathematics, and to biology. Dyson's work speculated on the far future of humanity and advanced technology, such as the Dyson Sphere concept.

An avid writer and thinker on global scientific concerns, Dyson left an indelible mark on both scientific thought and public discourse about future possibilities for human and technological advancement.

He was elected as member of the European Academy of Engineering in 1993.
