Emmanuelle Charpentier is a French microbiologist, geneticist, and biochemist who co-discovered the CRISPR-Cas9 genome-editing technique, which has revolutionized molecular biology by allowing scientists to edit DNA with high precision.

For her contribution to the development of this technology, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2020, along with Jennifer Doudna. Her work continues to have profound implications for genetics, therapeutics, and biotechnology.

She was elected as the member of the European Academy of Engineering in 2023.
