Election Remark
Wolfram Burgard is a distinguished German roboticist and a leading expert in robotics and artificial intelligence.

With a professorship at the University of Technology Nuremberg, he spearheads the Laboratory for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, making groundbreaking advances particularly in simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) for robotics.

A Dortmund University alumnus with a doctoral degree from the University of Bonn, Burgard has been pivotal in developing probabilistic algorithms for robot navigation, including the seminal Monte Carlo localization method with peers in 1999.

His tenure at the University of Freiburg was marked by pioneering the use of interactive museum guide robots and furthering the study of autonomous systems.

Burgard is a prolific author, contributing to the foundational text "Probabilistic Robotics" and the influential "Principles of Robot Motion."

Honored with the prestigious Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize and multiple best paper accolades, he's recognized as an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, a fellow of the European Coordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence, and the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence.

He has been awarded an Advanced Grant by the European Research Council and has mentored numerous PhD students, securing his legacy in the robotics field.

His scholarly work continues to impact the study and application of AI in robotics, with a significant portion of his research publicly accessible on Google Scholar.

In 2021, he was elected as member of the European Academy of Engineering.
