An innovator in database systems architecture, Michael Stonebraker’s pioneering work has profoundly influenced modern databases.

His development of Ingres and Postgres systems at UC Berkeley reshaped relational database management, which led to further database innovations such as VoltDB and Vertica. Stonebraker’s acumen earned him the Turing Award in 2014.
