Dimitris Lagoudas is a University Distinguished Professor and holds the Robert C. “Bud” Hagner Chair of Engineering at Texas A&M University, specializing in Aerospace Engineering with joint appointments in Materials Science & Engineering. His prestigious academic journey includes a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Aristotle University, a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Lehigh University, and postdoctoral work in physics and mechanics at Cornell and Max Planck Institute.

Prof. Lagoudas has earned recognition for his significant contributions to smart structures and materials, evident by awards like the SPIE Lifetime Achievement Award.

His research delves into shape memory alloys, origami structures, and composite materials, resulting in numerous influential publications and a notable presence in the academic community.

He was elected as member of the Euorpean Academy of Engineering in 2010 and promoted as Emeritus member in 2020.
